7 To accommodate the larger-diameter return line, this 5⁄16-inch fitting (arrow) on the fuel-tank sender unit (located at the top of the fuel tank) must be cut off and replaced with a 3⁄8-inch fitting that is TIG welded to the sender. The sender is easy to unbolt from the tank, but it can get a bit grungy after 35 years. An alternative is starting with a clean, all-new replacement.
