Dana Corp. manufactures the aluminum chassis used on the C6 Z06 and ZR1. Rather than the spot welds of the base Corvettes’ steel frame, it’s manufactured with MIG and laser welds and self-piercing rivets. Compared with most other aluminum parts used in auto construction, the Corvette chassis is at least three times thicker, which required the pioneering of new laser welding equipment.
