The C5 and C6 models owe much of their low curb weights to their similar underlying body structures, which feature hydroformed, box-type framerails. Aluminum is used strategically, for the engine cradle and some suspension mounts. The strong structure required less of a steel skeleton than was used in the C4, which helped save weight.
