Using a jack, we compressed... Using a jack, we compressed the coil spring and removed the nut holding the upper ball joint to the spindle. The control arm can now be lowered enough to remove the factory spring. Assembling the shock, spring,... Assembling the shock, spring, and associated parts prior to installation makes things easier. We were impressed with the quality of these parts as well as the thorough instructions provided. The Speed Direct coilover... The Speed Direct coilover kit uses a special spring locator at the bottom, ensuring proper coil-spring placement. A Torrington bearing is also placed between the adjuster and the spring locator to make ride-height adjustments much easier. Before installing the new... Before installing the new coilovers, the lower shock-mount holes must be enlarged to 3/8-inch diameter. The new shocks are then through-bolted (instead of bolting to the threaded provisions in the lower control arms like the originals). The coilover assembly can... The coilover assembly can now be bolted in place using the provided hardware. Be sure the adjuster is facing outward to make shock adjustments easier, and rotate the coil spring so that it seats in the frame pocket of the car just like the original. A nice benefit of the Shark... A nice benefit of the Shark Bite suspension is the ability to adjust ride height. We lowered our car approximately 11/2 inches from the factory ride height, with plenty of adjustment to go lower or higher if desired. A total of 4 inches of adjustment is achievable with the Speed Direct parts. Ride-height adjustments are... Ride-height adjustments are easily made using the spanner wrenches provided with the suspension kit. Once ride height is established, the adjuster locks can be tightened. Another beneficial upgrade... Another beneficial upgrade to any C3 is the addition of a spreader bar between the front upper control arms. This reduces frame flex, stiffening the suspension by adding a lateral brace between the arms. We've already established... We've already established baseline numbers for C3 Triple-Ex car at the dragstrip (above) and road course. Next month we'll install a Shark Bite coilover rear suspension and take the car back to the track to show you how much improvement these upgrades have made.
