L98 350 TPI: Naturally Aspirated vs. HP Turbo Kit (8.3 psi) - TheseTPI motors have always been known for their massive torque production.The steady diet of boost from the HP turbo kit simply elevated theengine's power curve without changing its basic shape. Imagine stabbingthe throttle and summoning up over 600 lb-ft of torque. That, dearreader, is one serious C4 Corvette.

Viewed from the outside, it's hard to imagine all this hardware fittinginside the engine compartment of a C4 Corvette. It does.

C4 Turbo Install Turbo
The kit includes a 60mm turbo designed to provide immediate boost. Wehave produced over 700 hp using this unit, so there is plenty of room togrow should you decide to build a dedicated turbo motor.

C4 Turbo Install Headers
Feeding the 60mm turbo was a set of tubular exhaust manifolds. Everyexhaust component on the kit was treated to Jet-Hot coating to maximizethe heat energy to the turbo.

C4 Turbo Install Waste Gate
This TiAL 44mm wastegate was employed to regulate boost pressure. Oursystem was set to provide roughly 8 psi to the otherwise-stock L98.

C4 Turbo Install Intercooler
Keeping the charge temperature down and the power up was thisfront-mounted air-to-air intercooler.
C4 Turbo Install Fuel Injectors
Larger (42-pound) fuel injectors and a revised PROM were used to tailorthe air/fuel ratio and timing curve to the turbo combination.
C4 Turbo Install Fast Controller
We employed a FAST XFI engine-management system on the engine dyno tooptimize the tuning of both the naturally aspirated and turbochargedcombinations.
C4 Turbo Install Tpi Manifold
The TPI induction system was a major factor in determining the shape ofthe torque curve. The long runners promoted low-speed power butrestricted horsepower production past 5,000 rpm. (Crusty plug wires andspare-tie wrap not included.)
C4 Turbo Install Before Test
We first ran the L98 in normally aspirated form. The engine produced 332hp and 394 lb-ft of torque with a set of long-tube headers and anelectric water pump.
C4 Turbo Install Dyno Test
Equipped with the HP Performance turbo kit, the L98 thumped out an even500 hp and 611 lb-ft of torque at a peak boost pressure of 8.3 psi.
