11. To remove the hub, you’ll need to disconnect the hub assembly from the upper and lower ball joints that hold it in place on the control arms. Bear in mind that these are under high pressure from the coil spring. While it’s probably better to start with the lower ball joint, this time I began with the upper, shown here. First, remove the cotter pin, then unbolt the castle nut a few turns. The tapered ball-joint shaft will likely still hold the hub in place.
