I currently have a Hurst short shifter. It's very notchy and is very difficult to shift from 4th to 5th and sometimes to reverse. I have gotten used to it, but refuse to go back to stock. I am willing to purchase another one if I can find one that works. Who makes the best short shifter that works through every gear. Help... -john

Is there a way to manually lower the headlamps on a 1980 Vette? Mine are stuck in the raised position. I've had different issues with them over the years, but there has to be a way to lower them by hand. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I was installing passenger side or right side lower a frame and the rear bolt only tightened up to a certain point. I removed fastner and tightened the fastner itself, and ran it up to thelast thread on the bolt. I noticed the rear bracket had beenmoved about an eighth of an inch over to the right andrewelded, could this put the control arm shaft in that much of a bind or is the lower a frame bent or the car frame itself bent any suggestions? the driver side bolted up without any problems.

I'm on a quest to locate more information about a '63 Split window drag car that I used to see race at Irwindale Raceway in Southern California in the late 60's and early 70s's. It was a gorgeous airbrushed blue injected car and this may be a picture of it but not sure because of the angle and lack of color. I purchased a 1996 Lt4 about 6 months ago. I didnt receive a "fob" in that purchase so I decided I would purchase one and program it myself. I went through the manual in the car and followed the instructions exactly however I never got the remote to work and the PKE light will not go off on the information board. I have experienced problems with starting the car, the door locks and the rear hatch ever since. If anyone out there can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I am at my wits end with this and I have actually stopped driving the car because of the problems...

I bought a 2002 corvette and it started having some error codes come up. I found out that the car had a auto trans and some previous owner switch it. it seems that the person didnt complete the job with the computer module the car runs great but the computer still thinks its an auto. any help would be great thanks Bill Rowe

there are corvette salvage dealers across the world... you might want to narrow it down.. and there might be a bunch of different years that will fit.. since you are changing the frame... it does not really matter what you put under it as for originality.. i know of one guy on craigs list.. who has a bunch of vette parts out here in the san fernando valley... http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pts/ there is also the corvette trader ... here is a frame swap on a C1 http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_0702_c1_corvette_sport_chassis/index.html i bet there more out there in the tech section.. does anybody have a list of what years or frame will fit under his 72 corvette body... one more thing... almost every frame has a VIN number.. many states check it.. when registering a car from out of state.. many auctions are also checking frame numbers... so before you buy any frame.. you might really want to verify that the VIN is clean... and get a real bill of sale for it with vin numbers and driver license numbers just defacing the vin number on the frame or removing it from the frame is a federal crime...

Bought my first vette. It's a '74 and in need of lots of work. First I'm just trying to get her running right. This thing is a mess under the hood. Wiring is a knightmare. The last guy really cobbed this one up. And yes, I hope he finds this post. He deserves it after using a lamp cord wire to run to the junkyard HEI dizzy he slapped in. OK, I fixed that and replaced the plugs and wires. It ran like @#$% still. Long story short it was off 1 tooth. I replaced the timing set and timed it OK after that. Engine still has a huge miss! What would you try next? Oh yeah, and it smokes out of the pass side exhaust but not at all on the left. I was thinking maybe a valve? I'll end up building a stroker for it anyway, but I just want to ride it a little first. :confused:

hi out there im new to forum but have had my 87 for 5 years now and have never been happy with the rough ride i get . seems i feel every crack in road i replaced original shocks 2 years ago with monroe matics but no improvement new tires etc it has 54,000 miles everything else is good would some new performance shocks help? i really dont want to redo the whole front/rear end suspension i will spend some bucks if i get more comfort please any help would be great!! thanks

I have an 80 vette and the paint looks original but the fiber glass has come through. I know it needs a repaint, but can I do to get it ready for a paint job? Should one apply gelcoat or just have it painted? And what the going rate for a decent paint job? I live in N.Y. Two I read your article on the C4 rear end rebuild. Is this the rear as an 80 vette? Does the L81 have a steel crank and the other necessities to build up the engine; particularly can it handle a supercharger, or should I just put this engine to the side and buy a crate engine ( not really in the budget ). I am just wondering what if anything I should do to this engine in order to get the biggest bang for buck. Should I have my current heads machined, or buy aftermarket heads? I finally got enough money together to get my first vette, and I want it to be fast. Unfortunately, I have the L81 with 190 hp. I dont mean to sound arrogant or ungrateful, I just dont have a lot of money to throw around and want to get the biggest bang for my little bit of bucks. If anyone has experience with this engine, or similiar engine, please give me an idea as to what the best way to approach my L81. Thanks.

I have a old SCCA BP race car that I would like to build into a streetable hotrod. The look I am after is L 88 off road factory race parts. I have a 71 coupe, and added a Holley 770 Street Avenger a few months back. I modified my Rochester bracket, and kept the original cable, but it's not "right". Can you list the parts you used for the Holley conversion you did? You said you found everything you neede on Summit. Did you change the throttle cable? If not, how did you mount it? Also, did you bend the dual chrome fuel supply line around the manifold water supply for the heater hose? Thanks!

Ive got a '99 vette, and am trying to get more horsepower. Not looking for magic, but have been told that a good tune up, generally gets better results, than most other quick add ons.....Is this usually the case. I dont want to get into the motor or do anything radical, an extra 15 to 20 HP would be great. Ive already got a cold air intake, high end filters, and a Corsa catback exhaust on it.....Is there anything left to do W/O getting into motor??? Ive got a dyno sheet showing 403 HP before the Corsa exhaust.....What kind of HP gain did the exhaust give???? Thanks for any help you may be able to give...

I have just purchased a custom vette out of a garage in arvada, *** I cannot find who built the car. It has been in this condition (customized) since birth. The tires are 1982. Someone built it in the early 80's. Who built it. It was not a no name builder. This car is very detialed in every way. The pin striping is on the car, in the engine compartment, on the wheels, and the interior. The seats match the pinstriping. The seats and floormatts are embroirdered. All the stitching matches the pinstriping. The pinstriping has a name (very small) on the rear, it says "louie". Please help. Any info would be helpful. THANKS, John
