Corvette Grand Sport Returns For 2010In May, Chevrolet announced that the Grand Sport model designation-absent since 1996-will return to the Corvette lineup for the 2010 model year. Combining the Vette's standard LS3-based powertrain with unique, wide-body styling and a race-bred suspension, the Grand Sport is intended to split the difference between the base car and the Z06. It's offered in both coupe and convertible body styles, with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

A Bigger Hammer
Ugur Sahin Design and Mallett Cars are teaming up to offer the Mallett Z03 Corvette. Based on Sahin's striking Z03 concept, the car is said to offer both stupendous performance and the height of automotive haute couture. A limited run of 100 vehicles will be visually enhanced with handcrafted carbon-fiber bodywork, and each will be painted a color of its buyer's choosing. The conversion can be applied to any base or Z06 C6 at a price of $69,000 (car not included).

Mid America Motorworks' Corvette Funfest, billed as "the ultimate customer appreciation party," will take place on September 19-21, 2008, at Mid America's 150-acre corporate campus in Effingham, Illinois. This free event is one of the largest Corvette gatherings in the world. More than 15,000 Corvettes and 45,000 Corvette enthusiasts participated in Funfest '07.

Taking it's name from the long running column in Street Rodder Magazine by Tony Kelly (now retired from chasing crooks and dedicated to chasing Super Chevys for the magazine of the same name), the Cop Shop Show returns to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park California on Sunday November 14, 2004. Last year's event attracted nearly 500 entries and spectators from all over the state. This year's attractions include a wide variety of categories for stock and modified cars, trucks, and motorcycles, with award selection done by experienced staff working with the aforementioned Tony Kelly himself!

A Kid Again
This '65 coupe is the proclaimed favorite toy in the well-stocked toy box owned by Carol Burton and her husband Larry, of Lake Burton, Florida. Currently running a ZZ3 GM crate motor with TPI, a super chip, and other "goodies" such as a four-speed and 3.70 gears, Carol's "Snake Charmer" puts out approximately 420 hp! Larry has his '30 Ford street rod to "play with" at car shows, as well as a '99 Plymouth Prowler the couple owns, but it's Carol's Vette that gets the attention-both at the shows and on the street where she's not afraid to step up to an impromptu burn out contest.

If someone asked me to describe a "plant manager," I'd probably be inclined to characterize such a person as an upper management, bureaucratic drone; a humorless functionary whose face is almost consistently buried in production efficiency reports or trying to find some new way to cut costs per unit by a penny or two. Actually, considering my warped sense of humor (?), I'd probably pop off with some comment about a plant manager being a person who takes care of the flowers and shrubs at a nursery.

Almost from the beginning, there have been those at Chevrolet who wanted the Corvette to be "something else." Along the way there have been proposals to soften the Corvette, add a back seat, and to use steel for the body. The Astro I proposed using an opposed, flat-six, Corvair engine. Fortunately, this was one for the history books.
