C7.R Breaks Cover in Monterey

Corvette Racing's new C7.R, a purpose-built, factory-sponsored race car based on the 2014 Stingray, made its first appearance at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion on August 17. Driven by Tommy Milner, the C7.R lapped the track twice before a surprised, but enthusiastic, crowd.

The C7.R will debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2014. Check www.vetteweb.com for updates as they become available.

Go Ahead, Defy My Ride

Quaker State's new "Defy My Ride" sweepstakes offers fans the chance to win a 1972 Corvette restored by Hendrick Performance, along with input from Dale Earnhardt Jr., to show that proper maintenance can help a car 40-plus years in age "defy time."

The classic C3 will receive a complete facelift, featuring an intense detailing of the exterior, Torq-Thrust wheels wrapped in new BFGoodrich tires, Wilwood brakes, KYB shocks, a state-of-the-art stereo system, and more.

"The Defy My Ride Sweepstakes pays tribute to well-aged vehicles and their longevity. With the proper care and under-the-hood technology, it is possible for any car to defy time and become a classic," said Quaker State Global Brand Manager Gita Gidwani.

Through October 31, participants can enter the sweepstakes by logging on to www.quakerstate.com, or by scanning the QR code located on in-store Quaker State materials via their smartphones and completing the entry form.

ZR1 Winner Gets a Bonus Surprise

VETTE doesn't give a shout out to every winner of the National Corvette Museum's Corvette raffles (It has a lot of them!), but the NCM's recent giveaway of a 2013 ZR1 deserves special mention.

On May 23, Tommy Gleaton was chosen the winner of a 60th Anniversary ZR1. The ZR1 was unique, not only in that it was the third-to-last C6 ZR1 ever built, but also because Chevrolet Chief Engineer for Small Block Engines Jordan Lee hand-assembled its supercharged 6.2L/638hp small-block V-8 at the GM Wixom plant.

"I'm still in shock that I won this significant piece of Corvette history," Gleaton told VETTE magazine.

Stingray Supply Chain Revealed

Have you ever wondered how many suppliers contribute to the new Stingray? According to Chevrolet, there are hundreds of companies that directly or indirectly provide parts to the program.

Thanks to IHS SupplierBusiness' Who Supplies Whom Database, 64 of those suppliers are now identified by name, and the list continues to be updated. Some of them, like Mahle, Federal Mogul, and Brembo, are familiar to our readers. The majority, however, are business-to-business manufacturers that don't market to consumer channels.
