My Corvette is a '61 Fawn Beige hardtop/softtop. I've had her for five years, and she continues to impress me. With a 327/300 engine, power steering, and front disc-brake upgrades, she's a pleasure to drive. Having retired from the U.S. Army with more than 23 years of aviation service, I look forward to driving my Corvette more than any helicopter or airplane I flew during active duty. I'm a corporate pilot during the week, but my pride and joy is my Corvette that I drive on the weekends.

'99 C5 Coupe


My car is a '99 Nassau Blue six-speed coupe that features an LS1 engine customized with black-and-blue flames and a ton of chrome. Its mods include headers, high-flow cats, an X-style crossover pipe, a Corsa exhaust, a cold-air intake, and blue neons and LEDs. I named it "BLUEBYA." The name is all over the car, on the engine, in the interior, and on the license tag.

I purchased my first Corvette a couple of years ago with 115,000 miles on it. The C4 body style has always been one of my favorite designs. I love the two-tone silver/gray colors and could not pass up this American classic.The engine was worn, but the car was still running well. Even though it was still getting 24 mpg on the highway, oil was coming from just about every crevice possible on the engine. The body had some rough spots, too. Some said I should run the Corvette into the ground and buy another, but I bought it with the intention of bringing it back to its original glory. My plan is to pass it on to my son.The restoration work included removing and completely rebuilding the engine and transmission. Some of the upgrades included a new racing cam, 24-lb/hr injectors, and a Borla cat-back exhaust.I hope my son will appreciate what he inherits and keep it in great condition. I would love to have a copy of VETTE with our Corvette in it, to share with him some day. By the way, he just had his first birthday a couple of months ago and can already say "Corvette." He can even pick our Corvette out of a lineup of cars. I'm a very proud Dad.

I thought you might be interested in showing a few pictures of my '80 custom, which I built in my garage with my two oldest boys, Chase and Cameron.I never thought this Corvette would be as radical as it turned out, but it's now a show-stopper wherever we go. There are, of course, those purists who ask, "Why did you do that to a Vette?" We just smile and say, "Because we could."The car features an old-school small-block 400 with around 500 hp. It's equipped with a Victor Jr. intake, an 850-cfm Quick Fuel carb, a close-ratio Tremec five-speed, and a 3.73 rearend. The rear tires tucked under the flares are 12-inch-wide Mickey Thompsons mounted on classic Centerlines.Other key features include a bonded-and-molded body kit, custom gauges and interior, and a very serious stereo. We did have some help on the paint from a good friend, Danny Dailey, but the layout, design, and airbrush work on the flames were done by Chase and me. I hope others can appreciate the amount of time and effort we've invested in this car, as well as the fun we've had along the way. Oh, and one other thing: it's an absolute blast to drive.
