After reviewing and rejecting eight different designs, Ken finally found one he liked from RK Sport. It followed the original lines of the car, but was raised just enough to give him the clearance he needed-no scoops, no bumps, no extractors, no vents, no tasteless murals painted on it. The car would not look like a surgically addicted lingerie model-it would look like a Corvette.
By this time, the car's owner was getting impatient. Yes, he was impressed by the 600-plus horsepower the KB blower generated, and yes, he was pleased Christley had found a hood he'd accept, but he still wanted his freakin' car back. Go figure.
Being a true prince of a guy, Jim offered to buy the car, encouraging its owner to go buy himself a new one. He even offered to supply him with a Kenne Bell supercharger for his trouble. Naturally, the Vette's owner accepted. Then, Jim turned around and made the Christleys a deal on the car they couldn't refuse. The unrequited love was requited: The Christleys had their Vette.
For a purist like Ken, this Vette is ideal. The only additional upgrades-a Centerforce 12-inch single-disc clutch and a set of Bilstein shocks were added to deal with the additional horsepower from the 2.6-liter KB supercharger.
Now, Ken and Pam take evening drives in a Corvette capable of much more than a mere 130 mph. Maybe the skies around L.A. aren't as clear as they were in Arizona, but with over 600 horses under its custom hood, it doesn't take the car too long to blast clear of the smog. According to Ken, when he taps the throttle, "it feels like a roller coaster on the way down a vertical drop. It presses you back into the seat as if all of a sudden you strapped on a 500-pound lead suit. You just know that devilish grin can pop out any moment when you hit the pedal. It's a mood-altering experience-a scary and exciting one. Better than sex? No, but really, really close."
