It's no longer America's only sports car, but the Corvette is truly America's favorite sports car. And one very popular Corvette celebration is the Chevy/Vettefest show in Chicago. Billing itself as "the most popular indoor all-Chevy and Corvette event in the world," Chevy/Vettefest reached its 20th anniversary the weekend of November 10-11, and again included an exceptional collection of Chevrolets and Corvettes.
Filling the North Building of the huge McCormick Place Exposition Center in downtown Chicago, the 20th Anniversary Chevy/Vettefest gathered together some of the finest cars in the United States and Canada. Most of the cars were flawless restorations, but there were also a number of original, like-new Corvettes that have somehow survived the years. Many of these cars have earned multiple awards of the highest distinction, and those that have earned Bloomington Gold Certification, NCRS Top Flight, and Chevy/Vettefest's Golden Spinner were eligible for the Triple Crown award. Thirty-two Corvettes, all built between 1953 and 1982, earned the award. Race and modified Corvettes competed for the new Bow Tie Boulevard award, which a total of 54 participants took home. Other Chevys and Corvettes competed in the Gold Spinner Concourse, with Corvettes taking 51 of the 96 Gold Spinners that were handed out.
In addition to the fine cars on display, Chevrolet brought its Corvette Heritage tour to the show. Included in the display were some of the latest Corvettes, along with a C5-R LeMans racer and the '78 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car. More than 40,000 fans found the combination impossible to resist and joined in the anniversary celebration. We're sure there will be just as many next fall.
