While major events that attract thousands of Corvettes are spectacular, there is also a lot to be said for informal, local get-togethers. Especially while half the country is buried under meters of snow!
On February 9th, the American Mid-Year Society (AMYS, for short) of Southern California held its "Gathering" at Corvette Mike's showroom in Anaheim. Over 40 Corvettes of the '63-67 vintages showed up to sparkle in the perfect Sunday-afternoon sunshine. There was no cost to hang out and exhibit one's pride and joy, and "Corvette Mike" Vietro provided sandwiches and sodas for everyone in attendance. Everybody there was also entered in a drawing, and Mike took the lucky winners for joy rides in the ultra-lightweight Mosler MT900 Photon that was on display at his showroom.
The American Mid-Year Society is an informal group of enthusiasts who get together every few weekends to simply hang out and come up with any excuse they can to drive and show their Second-Gen Vettes. Other recent events have included convening for breakfast, and cruising up and down Pacific Coast Highway. To be an official member, all you need is a '63-67 Corvette VIN which becomes your membership number. For more information on the Society or its upcoming events, contact AMYS founder Brian Pallas at email@example.com or by calling him directly at (714) 401-5234.
